Change the Battery of IPhone 5

Have you ever experienced the problem with iPhone battery?

I have my iPhone 5 for almost three years, and the batter life keeps decreasing. Finally, I can’t stand it and try to find a solution. And it turns out it’s not hard to replace the battery by yourself. (Changing battery by an Apple Tech can be rather expensive).

Notice: it is your own risk to do following steps on your iPhone. Only dissemble your iPhone if you feel confident.

You need several tools:

a battery(you can buy one on ebay or amazon), a star screw driver, a suction cup and a pry tool.

steps:

  1. use your screwdriver to remove the two screws at the bottom side of the phone (near the microphone and the speaker).
  2. put suction cap on the lower area of the screen (near the home button), slowly and gently pull out the screen glass(you can use the pry tool to help pull out the screen), and this is the picture after pulling out.

be careful, and notice that right now there are still some connections between the screen the phone.

  3. Only leave the screen as about 90 degree. Remove two screws (red square on the picture) on the middle right hand side, which are holding the battery cable and then pull out the cable holder, and pull out the battery.  In this step, you can also disconnect the whole screen (in the upper area are the connectors for the screen), but I don’t recommend this if you are dissembling iPhone for the first time. Below is a picture which shows the disconnected screen and replaced battery.notice: there is glue on the back side of the battery, so it might take some level of force to pull the battery out. Just don’t be scared.
  4. Put the new battery on, connect the cable, mount the screws, and you are good to go! 20160914_054120000_iOS

Now you have a new battery!

Usually this replaced battery will not last as long as your original iPhone battery(they are more expensive!), but since they are cheap, you can replace battery as many times as you want. So at least in battery life aspect, your iPhone is “renewable”!
